Thomas Randall Garrity

Thomas Garrity

Dover, NH - Thomas Randall Garrity was born in Fall River, MA on August 11, 1951. He died on April 26, 2012 at Riverside Nursing Home in Dover, NH after a long illness. Tom graduated from Somerset High School in Somerset, MA in 1969. He attended Lowell University before transferring to Franklin Institute in Boston and graduating with honors with an Associates Degree in Auto Mechanics in 1972. He lived in Somerset all his life.

Tom was a volunteer firefighter and fire apparatus maintainer in both Somerset and Swansea MA. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant. Tom loved hunting, fishing, feeding the birds, gardening, tinkering with and restoring mechanical and electrical equipment of all types, and cooking for his friends. Many will remember his talent for cooking clam boils for large crowds to raise funds for local charitable efforts! Tom owned and operated Tom’s Citgo Station in Somerset for many years before he went to work for Daley’s Oil and later the Somerset Water Department. After a stroke in 2009, Tom moved to Dover, NH where he was cared for by his brother John and family at the Riverside Nursing Home.

Tom is survived by his mother Amy W. Garrity, formerly of Somerset and now of Dover NH; his brother John H. Garrity III of Newfields, NH; sister-in-law Rev. Susan E. Garrity of Dover NH; nephew John T. Garrity of Hollis, NH and his family; and niece Ellen (Garrity) Foord of Dover NH and her family. His father, John H. Garrity Jr. passed away in December of 2011.

A private Memorial Service will be held in Dover, NH. Burial will be at Christ Episcopal Church Cemetery in Swansea MA on Thursday May 3 at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tom’s name to St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church of Dover NH.
