Catherine Lazarus

Rochester - Catherine Raizes Lazarus, formerly of Rochester NH, passed away peacefully at her current residence at Emeritus at Spruce Wood in Durham, NH on May 10th, 2012 at the age of 83. She has joined her beloved sweetheart, James “Jimmy” Lazarus who she was married to for 56 years and predeceased her in 2007.

Born November 28, 1928 the daughter of Peter Constantine Raizes and Anthipy (Demopoulos) Raizes. She graduated from Spaulding High School, Class of 1947 and Lasell Jr. College in 1949.

She married the Love of Her Life, Jimmy on November 25, 1951 and settled in Rochester to raise their 2 children, Althea Lazarus Coussoule and George James Lazarus. Along with her late husband they co-founded Strafford Appliance Co., Inc. Her greatest joy was taking care of her family. She loved cooking, reading, sewing, knitting, doing puzzles and her trips to Foxwoods. She enjoyed summers with her husband at York Beach, Maine when her family ran the Nubble Light Dining Room restaurant and winters at Clearwater Beach, Florida.

She will be greatly missed by all those whose hearts she touched. Her family and especially the children, will all miss her kind voice and beautiful smile.

She leaves behind her daughter Althea Coussoule and her husband George of Newfields, her son George Lazarus and his wife Sandra of Dover; her 5 granddaughters Christina Meehan and her husband Keith, Jennifer Richards and her husband Brian, Stephanie Nemi and her husband Ryan, Elizabeth Jenkins and her husband Jonathan, and Andrea Coussoule; 6 Great Grandchildren, Michayla and Gabriella Meehan, Avery and Jack Richards, Charlie Jenkins and Mia Nemi. She is also survived by her siblings Demitrios Raizes, Mary Blougouras, Anastasia Savramis and her husband George, Despina Raizes and her husband Peter Kehoe, her Godson Dr. Peter Savramis, a brother-in-law Tony Lazarus and many nieces and nephews.

She was a long-time member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, and was a member of the Business & Professional Women’s Club, the Daughters of Penelope, the Alkistis Society, and the Young at Heart.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Monday, May 14th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover. The Trisagion Service will be 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon Tuesday at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Locust St., Dover. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery.
