John Prescott Rutherford

Dover, NH – John P. Rutherford, 81 was born May 21, 1931 in Norwich, Connecticut the son of James and Doris (Bullard) Rutherford, and passed away on May 21st 2012 in ‘his way and his terms’. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was very proud to be an honorable veteran of his country. John started his career in 1960 with Trailways Bus Lines as a bus driver which escalated to V.P. of Safety and Training relocating him and his family from Boston to Los Angeles and finally to Dallas at Greyhound Bus Lines at his retirement. While steadily employed, John loved his ‘moonlighting times’ driving big gas tankers during the nights always with one of his boys by his side, as well as weekend excursions for Wilson Bus Lines to Nantasket Beach always with his beloved family and friends.

He was the devoted husband of Gladys “Peggy” (Champney) Rutherford of Dover, N.H.; cherished and beloved father of three children, William John Rutherford and his wife, Len-Ann of Milford, N.H., father of; B.J., Katie and Timothy, Mark David Rutherford and his wife, Mary Lou of Rollinsford, N.H., parents of Brian, Kerry Anne and Laura, and Maureen Ellen DeMoura and her husband, Joseph of Dracut, MA,; parents of David and Joey, John’s sister Lorna Jane Rutherford of Los Alamitos, CA., and special mention to his beloved dogs Ruffie and Sparky.

John’s interests besides his family included reading, especially anything on WWII, gardening and Boston sports teams.

John’s brother, James Rutherford, predeceased him.

In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery where John’s remains will be interred this Friday, May 25th 2012 at 11:30 am. John will have a granite park bench in his honor for all to enjoy.
