John Springer

Lakeway, Texas - John Todd Springer, 91, peacefully passed away, with a sigh, June 13, 2012 in Lakeway, Texas. Friends said goodbye in Lakeway, and John will come home to Dover, Thursday June 20th. He was born in August 1920, in Union Town, PA. His parents were Robert E and Rachael Springer. He had 4 brothers and 4 sisters.

After John graduated from high school he entered the military during WW II. He flew in the Airforce in the B17 and was a communications specialist. He flew in an amazing 51 missions over Rommel’s troops in Italy and North Africa. He retired from the US Air Force in 1972 with the rank of Master Sergeant.

His first marriage was to Rena Fairbanks and they had four children, DiAnne, John II, Pat, and Danny. His second marriage was to Edythe Meister and he had one step son, Steve. John was a true sportsman. He played baseball and refereed for 40 years. He was an avid Boston Red Socks fan. He also loved bowling and was the NH state bowling champion well into his 80’s. He enjoyed a good game of golf and played often up into his late 80’s. He was a Mason and lifetime member of Topeka Scottish Rite chapter.

John is survived by his children, DiAnne Herbert, John Springer, Pat Huskinson, Steve Meister and their spouses, 8 grandchildren, 19 great grand children and 4 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by ex-wife Rena and wife Edythe, son Danny, his parents, and his brothers Robert, Clifford, Albert, George and his sisters Minerva, Frances, Elizabeth and Edna. John’s spirit, great determination in all that he did, and zest for living life to its fullest will be remembered by all who had the pleasure to know and love him. He will be missed. Friends may call Thursday evening 6-8 PM, June 21 at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover, NH and a memorial service with military honors will be on Friday morning June 22 at 9:30 AM at Tasker Funeral Home.
