Rita (Messier) Couturier

Rita (Messier) Couturier

Dover-Rita (Messier) Couturier, 87, passed away quietly and peacefully after several months of declining health at Riverside Rest Home on Wednesday, December 12, 2012. Rita was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Paul E. Couturier, as well as by her youngest son, Denis.

Nothing made Rita happier than her family, so it is only fitting that she was surrounded by them and by their love in her final days. Rita is survived by her beloved children, grandchildren, sons- and daughters-in-law: Paul Couturier (spouse Barbara; kids Christine & Phil), Richard Couturier (Maureen; Kate & Anna), Carol Mercer (John; Lauren & Adam), Cathy Towle (Jon; Joe & Lindsay), and Denise Couturier (children: Michael, Nick, Becky & Kalie). Rita is also survived by her sisters Mary Landry and Peggy O’Brien (husband: Dennis), sisters-in-law Mona Woods and Nola Messier, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Alcide Messier and Mary (Keenan) Messier, and by her sister Celia Blakey and brother Joe Messier.

Born January 18, 1925 in Dover, NH where she lived her entire life, Rita was a graduate of Dover High School, a longtime member of the St. Charles Catholic Church congregation, and a veteran employee of the A&P in Dover. She loved cooking for her large family and her many friends; no one ever stepped through Grammy’s door without being offered a snack or a meal! She kept busy at crafts of all kinds—especially sewing and quilting, and family members all received cuddle quilts from her over the years.

The family is very grateful to the wonderful staff of Riverside Rest Home and Beacon Hospice for their warm and attentive care of Rita, as well as for the kindness and support they offered the family in her final days.

Calling hours will be held from 10-11 AM on Monday, December 17, 2012 at the Tasker Funeral Home (621 Central Ave, Dover, NH), followed by a private internment ceremony for immediate family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rita’s name to the Riverside Activity Fund (Riverside Rest Home, 276 County Farm Rd, Dover, NH 03820).
